In this issue are 2 interesting articles on family literacy. One article addresses class and culture in family literacy and the other addresses collaboration. The articles are in volume 44, no. 2 -- the October 2000 issue. If you are not a member of the International Reading Association and would like to become a member (and therefore receive the journal!), contact IRA at 302-731-1600 and ask for a membership form. You can also join on-line by going to: http://www.reading.org/membership/ In addition to membership in IRA, you can join a Special Interest Group (SIG) on Adult Education and Family Literacy. This SIG was formerly the Adult Literacy SIG; however, members decided that it would be beneficial to change the name to reflect the language in the Workforce Investment Act, Title II -- the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act -- and to be more inclusive in our purpose. Although the name has changed, we will continue to focus on the essential role of adult literacy in education, whether that is in the context of personal growth, family literacy, citizenship, or the workplace. If you are planning on attending the IRA conference in May in New Orleans, consider attending our SIG annual meeting and session. We will discuss family literacy and the critical role that adults play in that context. For further information about the Adult Education and Family Literacy SIG, contact me at the address and email listed in my signature below.
