It is funded through grants from the National Institute for Literacy and the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. Funding is currently secured through 9/30/2003 DESCRIPTION: This position will have primary responsibility for encouraging adult education and literacy practitioners in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Washington and Wyoming to utilize and integrate technology more effectively in adult basic skills instruction. Particular emphasis will be on the LINCS system, using the internet for information and communication. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Provide regional leadership in promoting the effective use of technology in basic skills instruction, particularly using the LINCS system. Manage a multiple-site project, including working with steering committees, supporting sites with information and assistance, monitoring project activities and expenditures, evaluating project materials and processes, and preparing project reports. Participate in state, regional, and national conferences including designing and delivering training workshops. Provide phone, written, and e-mail technical assistance and information to basic skills teachers and program directors in the region. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent, two years' experience working in or with adult basic skills programs, strong oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills. Facility with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail programs. Familiarity with use of the internet and internet-based resources. Experience designing and delivering training workshops for teachers. Availability for occasional overnight and out-of-state travel. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience coordinating projects that involve multiple partners and/or sites. Experience working as a member of a team-oriented work group. Experience using technology in adult basic skills instruction. Experience using web design software. SALARY: $35,000 - $39,000 for twelve month appointment. Medical and dental benefits.
