>From CindyTowsner:
I've found some resources you may wish to investigate:
* a monthly magazine, FamilyPC. You can access the magazine at
http://www.familypc.com. I found my copy in my doctor's office (he gave it
to me). One article names FamilyPC's top 100 family web sites. Among them
are http://www.bookbrowser.com; the Internet Public Library at
http://www.ipl.org; Sesame Workshop at http://www.ctw.org; CBS HealthWatch
at http://www.CBSHealthWatch.com; and KidsHealth at
http://www.kidshealth.org. The parenting sites are http://www.MyFamily.com;
National Parent Information Network at http://www.ericps.ed.uiuc.edu/npin;
and http://www.parentsoup.com.

* Sprint has published a student guide and a tutor guide for the
Yellow Pages. It can be accessed at http://www.sprintyp.com or phone Lisa
Sorenson, Media Manager for Sprint at 1-913-491-7287. I talked with Lisa and
she told me you could contact her for multiple copies. If you'd rather
e-mail her, she can be reached at lisa.m.sorenson@mail.sprint.com. The two
guides were created by The Adult Literacy League of Orlando, Florida. Good
work, FL!!

* Newsweek magazine just published a "Special 2000 Edition" on "Your
Child". It's the Fall/Winter 2000 edition and you can find it at most
bookstores or pharmacies. It's on sale until December 11, 2000.

"Ready to Learn" is a new video that provides parents & caregivers with
information on how to foster a young child's language & literacy development
beginning at birth & continuing through the preschool years. The video,
hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis & LeVar Burton in English & by Edward James Olmos
in Spanish, is available from ED Pubs (limit per person: 1 English & 1
Spanish) at this toll free number: 1-877-4ED-PUBS. To request large orders,
please visit the I Am Your Child Foundation website for information on
ordering procedures & cost. http://www.iamyourchild.org/order/order.html

Car Seats: Properly installed car seats can reduce the risk of fatalities
in motor vehicle collisions by 69% for infants and 49% for toddlers,
according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Studies
show, however, that more than half of car seats are used or installed
incorrectly. Nissan North America has published The What to Expect Guide to
Car Seat Safety. This booklet contains tips on choosing the right car seat,
advice for dealing with "car seat resistance" from young children, and
information on pregnant women and seat belts. The guide is free-of-charge
and available in English and Spanish. For copies, please call
1-800-955-4500. (Source: Scholastic Parent & Child)

 found some other family literacy magazines (and yes, my doctor let me
have them). Thought you might wish to investigate them:

http://www.parentandchildonline.com and its magazine is published six times
during the school year;
        Parenting--web site is http://www.parenting.com and is published
monthly. Parenting published a "Special Issue" on "Raising a Happy Child",
Fall 2000;
        Child--web site is http://www.childmagazine.com;
        Parents--web site is http://www.parents.com and is published
monthly; and
        Sesame Street Parents--web site is http://www.sesamestreet.com, AOL
keyword: Sesame Street.
