CHARACTERISTICS OF FOOD STAMP HOUSEHOLDS: FY 2000 (Advance Report - 
pdf file) - In fiscal year 2000, 79.8% of all food stamp benefits 
went to households with children, reports USDA. Households with 
children had an average size of 3.4 individuals and received an 
average monthly food stamp benefit of $234. The average monthly gross 
income of food stamp households was $620.
