Friends and Colleagues,
As many of you know NCFL has been deeply involved in supporting family
literacy services within Head Start programs through the Head Start Family
Literacy Project. We also know that many Head Start programs have created
Family Literacy Services Coordinators to support the development of family
literacy services through their own programs’ efforts and community
collaborations. We’d love to hear from them concerning how they have and
are using family literacy services to strengthen the Head Start parent’s
knowledge about children’s early literacy development. The Head Start Child
Outcomes Framework provides a number of indicators in the broad areas of
language , literacy and approaches to learning ( as well as other
developmental areas). How are programs integrating these into their parent
education, parent and child interaction, adult education, and early
childhood services?
We have worked with a number of Head Start agencies that have had wonderful
successes incorporating family literacy service into their overall Head
Start Management systems. We’d love to hear from you.
