I am pleased to announce the featured and keynote speakers for the conference: Dr. Susan Neuman, Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education, US Department of Education. Dr. Neuman oversees all of elementary and secondary education, including Title 1 and Even Start. Dr. Perri Klass, Medical Director, Reach Out and Read. Through her role at Reach Out and Read, a national program which makes literacy promotion part of pediatric primary care, she has trained pediatricians around the country in how to counsel parents about the importance of looking at books with young children, and in how to integrate books and literacy into routine pediatric care.
