The NCFL Family Literacy Answer Book has some great ideas for the Parenting
component of ES. Many of the commercial parenting curricula are good as
well. It will be important to investigate the interests, goals and academic
skills of the parents you serve and tailor your facilitation to their
interests and abilities. As parents begin to enroll, the intake interview
should give you information upon which you can build your initial sessions.

One of the overall goals of ES is to support the parents' abilities as they
support their child's academic development. You may want to include in your
parenting sessions information and practice supporting children's early
literacy skills. The federal DOE has wonderful resources.

As a new Even Start coordinator, it appears that I
will be doing a good portion of the parent education
(once we ever have parents to educate!). Is there any
training or coursework I can look into to become
better prepared for this?
