Thanks to Tony Peyton and to Gloria Nudelman for suggested steps to take in
response to the proposal to drastically cut Even Start funding for the
upcoming fiscal year.

Here is another suggestion made by the coordinators of our own Even Start
program at the Blue Gargoyle:

ASK PARENTS WHO PARTICIPATE IN YOUR FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAMS TO WRITE THEIR
OWN LETTERS TO REPRESENTATIVES AND TO THE PRESIDENT. If you feel it
appropriate, it could be an optional project in parent education or adult
education classes.

It is important for participants to know what is going on, and I am certain
they will want their voices heard. Furthermore, their voices are direct and
compelling.
