Joint Technical Assistance Workshop for
"Mathematics Cognition and Specific Learning Disabilities" (RFA-HD-02-031)
"Research in Adolescent Literacy" (RFA-HD-03-012)
A Joint Technical Assistance Workshop for two solicitations - Mathematics
Cognition and Specific Learning Disabilities (RFA-HD-02-031) and Adolescent
Literacy (RFA-HD-03-012) will be held on Friday, January 10, 2003 from 8:30
AM - 4:00PM in Room 101 at the Institute of Education Sciences (formerly
Office of Educational Research and Improvement), 555 New Jersey Avenue, NW,
Washington, DC 20208. (See below for directions and hotel information.)
Any prospective applicant may attend this workshop; it is designed primarily
to provide generic information about the NIH grants submission and review
policies and procedures. In addition, a portion of the day will be devoted
to one-on-one discussions with attendees concerning their research ideas and
the goodness of fit to the objectives of the two RFAs. No pre-registration
is necessary.
If you are unable to attend the workshop but are nonetheless in need of some
assistance in these matters, you can view a video of a previous TA workshop
for an RFA on adult and family literacy:
http://www.nifl.gov/nifl/webcast3-15.html. (After accessing this site, click
on "View Webcast," then "register" for viewing this video by filling in the
required contact information; when the "Partnership . . ." page appears, go
to the lower left and select either the Real Player or Windows Media format;
if you encounter problems, click on the list of FAQs; the generic
information about the grants process begins about 20 minutes into the
video.) More specific inquiries about the mathematics cognition RFA
(HD-02-031) per se may be directed to Dr. Daniel Berch, and about the
adolescent literacy RFA (HD-03-012) may be directed to Dr. Peggy McCardle,
both at NICHD, or to the other funders' representatives named in the
solicitation.
