Position: FT Early Childhood Education Teacher Date: January 9, 2003 Salary: Competitive teaching salary offered, plus benefits. Position Description: A forward thinking instructor prepared to work as part of a team is sought to work with students attending an innovative preschool located in Southwest Washington D.C. The preschool is dedicated to developing the social, emotional and cognitive skills of students with an emphasis on developing the children's language, vocabulary and early math skills. We aim to eliminate the achievement gap before it opens and properly prepare young students for success in school. A significant percentage (70%+) of the students attending the preschool are from TANF (e.g. welfare) or low-income families. The preschool has small class sizes (currently 7.5 students per teacher), uses research based curriculum in language, reading and early math, and the preschool has an extremely high satisfaction rating among parents of students who attend the preschool. The school, located just across from the Southwest D.C. Waterfront, is convenient (2 blocks) to Metro rail and is easily reached via Routes 295 & 395. Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a college graduate, preferably holding an early childhood education, early literacy, or a closely related education degree.
