Apple Early Literacy Preschool
680 I Street, SW | Washington, D.C. 20024

Help us close the achievement gap! Early Childhood Educator Sought.

Position: FT Early Childhood Education Teacher

Date: January 9, 2003

Salary: Competitive teaching salary offered, plus benefits.

Position Description: A forward thinking instructor prepared to work as part
of a team is sought to work with students attending an innovative preschool
located in Southwest Washington D.C. The preschool is dedicated to
developing the social, emotional and cognitive skills of students with an
emphasis on developing the children's language, vocabulary and early math
skills. We aim to eliminate the achievement gap before it opens and
properly prepare young students for success in school. A significant
percentage (70%+) of the students attending the preschool are from TANF
(e.g. welfare) or low-income families.

The preschool has small class sizes (currently 7.5 students per teacher),
uses research based curriculum in language, reading and early math, and the
preschool has an extremely high satisfaction rating among parents of
students who attend the preschool. The school, located just across from the
Southwest D.C. Waterfront, is convenient (2 blocks) to Metro rail and is
easily reached via Routes 295 & 395.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a college graduate, preferably
holding an early childhood education, early literacy, or a closely related
education degree. The candidate should have a passion for making a
difference in the lives of young children and an interest in working in an
urban environment.

A candidate with 1 or more years teaching experience is a plus.
