Part of the course requires that I work with a student team to develop a family literacy grant proposal suitable for submission to the Illinois Secretary of State Literacy Office. Our student team is charged with developing partnerships between a public library, an adult education provider, and a child-at-risk agency as well as designing a family literacy program tailored to a community that demonstrates the need for such a program. As we prepare the grant proposal, we are responsible for coordinating all aspects of program planning and design. As someone new to grant writing, what general suggestions might any of you have for me as I become involved with this process? I am particularly interested in the preparatory phase: tips/guidelines for establishing effective partnerships, tailoring a program to meet the needs of a community, and marketing a program. I would certainly appreciate any advice or wisdom that you're willing to offer! Cheers! Jenna Nemec M.L.I.S. Candidate Dominican University
