Dear Fellow Childcare and Literacy Provider:

I'm contacting you as the Executive Director of Schuyler Head Start in
upstate New York to tell you about a new resource that will augment your
program's education materials while supporting this Head Start's vital dental
health subsidy program. It's a wonderful new children's book about dental
care titled Donald Dent that we at Schuyler Head Start produced (and which I
authored).

One of our most daunting shared challenges is trying to ensure that children
learn about proper dental hygiene and receive professional dental care. So
we decided to write a children's book that addresses these critical issues.
It touches on real themes children and parents cope with, such as eating the
right foods, brushing and flossing, debunking the myth that pre-permanent
teeth need no care, and overcoming a child's fear of getting into the
dentist's chair. Beautifully illustrated, with rhyming verses that engage
any child's ear, Donald Dent is written to enhance early childhood literacy
skills by introducing new vocabulary and by expanding young learners' sense
of the play of language.

The publisher has agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds to Schuyler Head
Start's dental program, helping us to help children get the care they need.
So buying this book will help you meet your program's dental education and
literacy goals, while helping to fund dental services for children of a
neighboring Head Start.

I hope you'll consider purchasing copies of Donald Dent. Call (607) 273-2870
for more information or to order (and large orders will receive free
shipping). We think it would make an ideal book for parents and caregivers
to read to children. Look for an article about Donald Dent in an upcoming
issue of the national Head Start Bulletin. Thank you for participating in
this unique grassroots effort.

Sincerely,

Jeff Lydon
Executive Director, Schuyler Head Start, Inc.
