Good Morning!

From: ASCD Smartbrief - April 1, 2003

Dual-language programs win over Washington communities
Dual-language curricula, in which students learn in both English and
Spanish, are becoming more popular in communities with large populations of
non-English speakers. Such programs are thought to help foster critical
thinking skills and improve relationships between children of different
ethnic groups. The Seattle Times (4/1)

Judge: California bilingual classes eligible for grant
Teachers of non-native English speakers will be allowed to avail themselves
of the funds from the Reading First grant, a San Francisco judge ruled
yesterday. Critics had said barring bilingual programs was a form of
discrimination. Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, Calif.) (4/1)
