On its face a correlation between family literacy and abuse seems hard to specify (as well as potentially counterintuitive). I know that there have been anecdotal reports about incidents of violence where an abusive partner will try to undermine the other partner's attempts to seek or attend education programs, and also that once someone who had little functional literacy (for lack of a better term) gains some, and gains more independence, there are subsequent reports of abuse related to the shift in the power dynamics between the couple. But I'm not sure how/if you're differentiating participation in family literacy, family literacy itself (e.g. a program trying to "fix" parents, if it's working from a deficit perspective), or if you're thinking of something entirely else. thanks Janet Isserlis >Does anyone know if there are any studies showing a correlation between >family literacy and any kind of child abuse (neglect, emotional, physical, >sexual, etc.). >Thanks, >Arlene Dale >Even Start Family Literacy State Coordinator >Masschusetts > >-----Original Message----- >From: Noemi Aguilar [mailto:naguilar@famlit.org] >Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 10:11 AM >To: Multiple recipients of list >Subject: [NIFL-FAMILY:1801] Program Leadership and Improvement >Discussion List > > >Posted on behalf of: Sandy Strunk > >Good morning everyone, >Yesterday I posted a message announcing the relaunch of the Program >Leadership and Improvement Discussion List.
