**Spanish-Language Resources on Student Achievement and Educational
Opportunities
The Education Trust has launched a bilingual Web site to reach the 40
million Latinos who constitute the largest and fastest growing minority in
America. The site provides reports and resources on achievement disparities
and tools for communities to bridge the gaps.

**Kids in America: 500 Years of Change
If you're interested in history, you'll find lots to explore in the Connect
for Kids "500 Years of History" timeline. Scroll down and look on the right
on our homepage.

**A Lesson in Giving
It's sort of a hidden tax on teachers: all the money they spend out of their
own pockets to pay for classroom supplies and other "extras." New York City
teacher Charles Best believed that if caring individuals could learn about
particular teachers' needs, they would come through to enrich student
learning. Holly St. Lifer reports on the result.

**Books for Tweens & Teens: What's Cool and Why?
In the latest edition of Connect for Kids' TalkTime Live! series, parents
and students will receive plenty of inspiration to read from 23-year-old Ned
Vizzini, a twice-published author. His first book, Teen Angst? Naaah., is
based on a compilation of clips from his New York Press column. The Weitz
brothers, of American Pie fame, recently optioned Vizzini's most recent
novel, Be More Chill, for film.

Vizzini will be joined by special guest expert Dr. Twila Liggett, creator
and executive producer of PBS-TV's popular "Reading Rainbow" show, to
provide insights into what it takes to coax tweens and teens to pick up a
book and read this summer and heading into the new school year.

Parents, educators, teens and tweens can submit questions and comments ahead
of time on the topic to rob@connectforkids.org and join the live chat on
Wednesday, July 21 at 1:00 PM ET on http://www.connectforkids.org
