New York City teacher Charles Best believed that if caring individuals could learn about particular teachers' needs, they would come through to enrich student learning. Holly St. Lifer reports on the result. http://www.connectforkids.org/resources3139/resources_show.htm?doc_id=231641 **Books for Tweens & Teens: What's Cool and Why? In the latest edition of Connect for Kids' TalkTime Live! series, parents and students will receive plenty of inspiration to read from 23-year-old Ned Vizzini, a twice-published author. His first book, Teen Angst? Naaah., is based on a compilation of clips from his New York Press column. The Weitz brothers, of American Pie fame, recently optioned Vizzini's most recent novel, Be More Chill, for film. Vizzini will be joined by special guest expert Dr. Twila Liggett, creator and executive producer of PBS-TV's popular "Reading Rainbow" show, to provide insights into what it takes to coax tweens and teens to pick up a book and read this summer and heading into the new school year. Parents, educators, teens and tweens can submit questions and comments ahead of time on the topic to rob@connectforkids.org and join the live chat on Wednesday, July 21 at 1:00 PM ET on http://www.connectforkids.org Noemi Aguilar National Center for Family Literacy 325 West Main Street, Suite 300 Louisville, KY 40202-4237 Phone: 502/584-1133 ext 168 Fax: 502/584-0172 E-mail: naguilar@famlit.org
