Subject: [NIFL-FAMILY:1957] ESL Family Literacy Program Research

Hi,
My name is Marcy Kinnaman and I am a graduate student at the University of
Maryland, Baltimore School Of Social Work. As part of my curriculum I have
been assigned to do research for an ESL family literacy program. The program

is run by the Carlos Rosario International Career Center in Washington, D.C.

They are a model program for adult ESL education, however, this is their
first experience with family literacy. They just started their literacy
program last year and they have asked me and two other students to conduct
research on programs like theirs throughout the country to determine best-
practices as well as tools to measure effectiveness. Currently, the program
is run in two local elementary schools. The students are parent's of the
children that attend these schools. They have had problems with retention,
recruitment practices, and measuring outcomes. I am looking for any
information or resources that would assist me in this research. I
appreciate
any help that I can get. Thanks a lot!

Marcy Kinnaman
