As state coordinator during that time, I believed that one way to maintain momentum for the family was to engage elementary school principals and teachers. Almost always, the success of that strategy depended on the principal, so part of the sales pitch involved the advantage to the school's overall performance in having parents who knew how to support their children's learning. In cases where space was available, programs were fortunate enough to be able to house the ABE component in the school. I have been out of that position for several years and do not know if that practice continues. You might want to contact the current state coordinator, Jeanne Lance, at <Jeanne.Lance@ode.state.oh.us>. Maybe some Ohio folks, and others, will share their experiences working with elementary schools. Connie Spencer-Ackerman Bridget Cullinane wrote: >I'm working on my Masters in Literacy right now.
