See below. All the Best, Meta Potts FOCUS on Literacy Glen Allen, VA THE ECONOMIC BOOST OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Investment in early childhood development pays off -- literally. A new Economic Policy Institute report shows how education programs for 3 and 4 year old children ultimately provide many financial benefits to local governments and taxpayers, including higher earnings and reduced crime and poverty. In "Exceptional Returns: Economic, Fiscal, and Social Benefits of Investment in Early Childhood Development," author and EPI research associate Robert Lynch finds high-quality early childhood development (ECD) programs contribute directly to higher employment and earnings, better health, less crime and poverty, solvency of Social Security, greater government revenues, and higher levels of verbal, math and intellectual achievement for participating students. The report calculates future savings and finds, for example, good early childhood education programs produce at least $3 in benefits for every dollar of investment. http://www.epinet.org/content.cfm/books_exceptional_returns#exec
