Wondering if anyone can suggest interactive  sites or
online courses for higher level ESL practice.


Here are  some advanced ESL sites. Hope your student finds these helpful.

English  for All

Content: site for adults  who want to learn English. This site includes five 
real-life stories in twenty,  fifteen-minute streaming video episodes. Each 
video episode features a  multi-ethnic cast and a friendly Wizard, who explains 
language and skill content  throughout each story. The video segments are 
interspersed with interactive  vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, and life skill 
lessons. The content is based  on the California ESL standards and skill areas 
identified in the SCANS  competencies. Site includes a course management 
system for teachers to track  student progress. 
Notes:  Site includes a Spanish translation of most  of the online text. To 
accommodate speakers of other languages, there is a link  to an online 
translator (with translation capabilities for German, Italian,  Japanese, Dutch, 
French, Portuguese and Hebrew). 

ESL  Gold

Content: ESL gold  provides hundreds of pages of free English teaching and 
learning materials for  both students and teachers. All resources are organized 
by skill and level for  quick and easy access. Choices include speaking, 
listening, reading, writing,  grammar, vocabulary, business, pronunciation, 
TOEFL/TOEIC, and idioms. Levels  include low and high beginning and intermediate and 
advanced.

This site has many listening exercises and  activities, including 
conversations and quizzes. The exercises target  high-beginning to low-advanced learners.

English  Listening Lounge

Content: The  English Listening Lounge is for students who want to improve 
their English  through listening comprehension. It provides practice for 
learners of all  levels. Students listen to recordings of ordinary English speakers, 
who talk  naturally on a variety of everyday topics. Each recording is 
accompanied by a  transcript and comprehension questions. This site has free 
activities and a  member area that costs money.


American English  Pronunciation

Content: A site  on pronunciation of the sounds of the English language. This 
site is dependent  on RealAudio and includes written support materials on 
contractions, grammar,  and spelling, as well as the sounds of the English  
language.


ESL Activities  Online

Content: This  ESL site teaches basic computer tasks, grammar, idioms, and 
punctuation. The  site also has "Canadian Corner," which has general Canadian 
readings and  specific ones for the Canadian Citizenship Test.. "Flashed ESL" 
uses moving  graphics to illustrate gender, verbs, pronouns, and other subjects, 
while  "American Stories" looks at such favorites as Route 66, baseball, and 
Motown.  Also features links to TOEFL, CLBA, and English for Work  websites.


Topics: an online magazine for learners of  English
