I am posting to NIFL as well as emailing Julie directly, because I think
this resource is worth sharing with everyone.

The Nemours Foundation operates a great website on children's health:

www.kidshealth.org

>From the home page, you can click on PARENTS, KIDS, or TEENS. Each section
has articles geared for the respective group: namely, articles for parents
about kids and teens; articles for a kid audience; articles for a teen
audience. The site also includes research summaries. You can search each
part of the site, or select from a list of general subjects. The site
includes Spanish.

Articles are generally clear and direct. Articles are written and reviewed
by health professionals. If your students' reading levels are below that of
the articles, you can at least use the site to get valuable, nonjudgmental
information.

I have used this site with success in a family literacy program where
student reading levels are 5.0 and above. Parents have found it easy to
navigate and read.
