Diana,

For lesson plans (with materails included) for integrating health topics
in family literacy see the Fairfax Family Literacy Curriculum's Health
Module at http://www.aelweb.vcu.edu/publications/famlitcurric/ The
curriculum was written by Besty Lindeman Wong and published by the
Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center in Richmond.

Also, for a most wonderful resource on teaching health literacy please see
Kate Singleton's the Virginia Adult Education Health Literacy Toolkit
published by the VALRC.

This can be seen online at
http://www.aelweb.vcu.edu/publications/healthlit/

Both documents can be downloaded as PDF and printed.

Nancy

[NIFL-FAMILY:2147] Request for PACT activities

To Family Literacy Teachers:
Call for Health-Related PACT Activities
We at World Education are developing a resource guide for integrating
health into family literacy teaching. We are looking for any PACT
activities that relate to health. These could include activities about
healthy food, exercise, seeing the doctor, safety, healthy teeth, when
you get sick, etc. If you have ever done an activity like this, please
let us know. We would like to include your ideas and experience in our
resource guide so that other teachers around the country can benefit. If
you only have time to send us a short description, that's fine, but if
possible, please include the following information:
-Name of the activity:
-Objectives for children and parents:
-Skills practiced:
-Materials needed/teacher preparation:
-Procedure/what to do:
-Literacy skills developed:
-Follow-up activities:
Please send information to: jmckinney@worlded.org
Thank you!
