The theme of the conference is "Shared Vision: Connecting the World of Family Literacy." Presenters from 32 states, Puerto Rico and Canada will present more than 100 different sessions. I am pleased to announce the featured and keynote speakers for the conference: Dr. Susan Neuman, Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education, US Department of Education. Dr. Neuman oversees all of elementary and secondary education, including Title 1 and Even Start. Dr. Perri Klass, Medical Director, Reach Out and Read. Through her role at Reach Out and Read, a national program which makes literacy promotion part of pediatric primary care, she has trained pediatricians around the country in how to counsel parents about the importance of looking at books with young children, and in how to integrate books and literacy into routine pediatric care. Bill Hill, Microsoft, will share his thoughts on the future of technology in literacy and family literacy programs. He will share his vision of enhancing the reading experience by utilizing cutting-edge technology, making both literacy development and technology more accessible for parents and children.
