Barbara, (I know this has been covered in some ways previously but...) I
would love to see reports on research that document the efficacy of
support for ABE, GED, & ESOL students. I think we all have a gut feeling
that you can't just teach the curriculum: you have to support the whole
person in order for learning at this level to be successful. What kinds
of support work best & how much time is needed? What kinds of student
support policies do other institutions use? I'm especially interested in
issues related to on-site or distance support structures for
distance/online learners.

Volume 6 D of "Focus on Basics" is (finally!!) at the printer. The
topic: transitions to post-secondary education. When it is posted to our
web site, I will announce it.

Volume 7A is on Youth in ABE, and it's well underway.

What's next? I'm looking for ideas. What would you like to see as the
next topic? What issues are most challenging to you? Please try and
think in terms of cross-cutting topics: those relevant to ABE, GED,and
ESOL, in most any settings. Thanks for your input. Barb Garner Editor,
NCSALL's "Focus on Basics"
