TESOL seems to like cutesy titles for their presentations. Things like:
The beatles, "Let it be" and verb conjugation
Loonie toons and other cartoons to teach adjectives
Rock and roll and modal auxiliaries.
The are not too interested in ideologcal stuff such as poverty, access, gender issues, etc. A few years ago I was thinking of submitting several proposals with cute titles and bogus content to see if they got accepted. I am kind of lazy though.

A message reminding us that it's not too late to submit a proposal for
TESOL:
Dear Colleagues,
Please pass this message along to your practitioner networks!
Don't forget-- it's still not too late to submit a proposal for the
TESOL 2005 convention. Please encourage your teachers and teacher
trainers to submit proposals. Remind them that presenting at TESOL is a
great chance for professional development--and that they have a much
better chance to get program funding to attend if they have had a
proposal accepted. This year, TESOL is also making a stronger effort to
offer discounts and lower cost housing. The attached flyer has all the
details. Here's a summary.
Proposal due dates: Midnight May 3 (on-line); May 1 (via mail)
TESOL Annual Convention
March 30-April 2, 2005
San Antonio, TX
Theme: Teaching Learning, Learning Teaching
Facts:
* The more proposals the adult education interest section submits
the more slots we get for adult education sessions.
* You can submit on-line at www.tesol.org <http://www.tesol.org/>
Go to 2005 convention.
* It doesn't take long. You need a title (7 words), a summary (40
words) and a description of your proposal with no names of
presenters mentioned (50-250 words). This can be pasted in from
Word.
* Submitting a proposal doesn't commit you to attending yet. You
can
accept, decline and change presenters later in the process. If
you
don't have all members of a panel lined up, or haven't worked
out
all the details, submit anyway. You can add the new panelists or
make changes later.
* Every teacher has something to share. New teachers often learn
best from other new teachers. Presenting at a national
conference
is a great way to feel more a part of the field and grow in your
career.
* TESOL is engaging in a number of efforts to encourage new
members.
For example, all full time graduate and undergraduates can
register AND attend the conference for $75. They are also hoping
to make lower cost housing available in San Antonio.
* The TESOL website has tips for writing a proposal.
