She works for an organisation called Literacy Aotearoa. I am attaching her email (with her permission) message and her address, so people can respond directly to her. I don't know if anyone is familiar with the approach she mentions. Thanks in advance, Ujwala Please reply to Barbara at the following address: barbara@literacy.org.nz Barbara's Original email: I think I may have mentioned to you during my visit that Literacy Aotearoa is updating the Tutor Training that we provide to our member groups. The training kit is 10 years old, and reflects both the organisation and the country as they were then. We want to bring tutor training into line with the reality of Literacy Aotearoa, and to revitalise the resources in general. The training programme is broken into four major sections, and when we address teaching strategies to help adults improve their reading and writing skills, we introduce trainees to the language experience approach, among other tutoring methods. Up to now we have used an ALBSU resource The Language Experience Approach to Literacy Teaching, as an introduction for intending tutors, to back up training activities. It is useful, but a bit dated - and it occurred to me that you or some of your colleagues might know of current material that provides a thorough introduction to this aspect of adult literacy teaching, for strengthening both reading and writing skills. If so, I await any suggestions with interest. Barbara from Literacy Aotearoa in New Zealand. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
