I've been silent on both lists thru the holiday due to time away from my computer and with my family and I'm still not 100% caught up with both lists but am enjoying the discussion. At the college I work at, I'm part of a committee of 2 (myself and one other person) charged with creating a professional development plan for our school. Currently professional development is not done regularly or often and new teachers often site frustration or a lack of knowledge as a problem for them and a cause as to why the leave. Long serving teachers site things like "wanting new ideas etc" in order to enhance their performance and to keep their students engaged the learning process. I'd like to hear ideas that other schools use or have used in determining their own professional development needs. What did you do to decide what was needed or not needed? Where did you begin? What worked, what didn't, etc. How did you evaluate the effectiveness of the professional development in the classroom or for the teacher? Do any schools have a professional development plan that they wouldn't mind sharing? I'm sure that I'll have more questions as feedback comes in on the initial questions. Thank you for the responses ahead of time. Regards Katrina L. Hinson
