Katrina,

An article I find useful to give to new teachers is this one from NCLE
"Beginning to Work with Adult Language Learners: Some Considerations" by
Florez and Burt:
http://www.cal.org/caela/digests/beginQA.htm

Also the National Center for Family Literacy and NCLE put out this
"Practitioner Toolkit for Working with Adult Language Learners," a web site
with links to much useful information about adult ESL learners, family
literacy, and an exhaustive list of resources with links for ESL
instructors:

 http://www.cal.org/caela/elltoolkit/

Hope those help you in your search.

Subject: [NIFL-FOBASICS:1300] New Instructor Training Materials

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any ideas, suggestions etc, for "new"
instructor training materials? I have been asked to work on developing a
new instructors training manual because we don't currently have one and
while I have some information as it relates to policy etc I'd like to
know if anyone has any ideas for what else to include. I want to make
functional manual that gives people never exposed to Adult Ed before,
some kind of background as well as resources and knowledge to make the
teaching experience less fearful or overwhelming. I'd like to hear
anyone's ideas.

Regards
Katrina Hinson
