Angela -- Are these native speakers of English? My program is putting
together a pilot program for learners who are in this situation because they
are not, and many of the issues are second-language issues. We are calling
it an ESL transitional class. Several of these learners are learners who
have successfully exited our Advanced ESOL classes and want to continue into
ABE, with a long term goal of obtaining a credential (maybe a GED or EDP) in
English. Is anyone else providing instruction with this focus, and could
share what you have found effective?

Thank you...

Subject: *** Spam *** [NIFL-FOBASICS:1511] Small groups for students that
have low reading skills

Hi everyone!
Please Help!!
I am looking for advice and resource for small group
adult reading sessions. We have a number of students
that range from the 2.5-to 4.o level on TABE. We want
to help these students raise their reading scores in
order to handle the reading in an ABE class. I
understand that it is challenging to structure a
reading group of low skill level readers because there
is such a wide range of needs. We currently have
one-on one tutors but we want a transition in to ABE
class. If any one has tips or success stories about
small group adult reading groups please reply.

Thank you,

Angela Childers
