You also can access the information on NCI's informed consent templates and recommendations for developing informed consents at http://ctep.info.nih.gov. Once at the site, click on Information on guidelines for the development of informed consent documents. The templates and recommendations grew out of the work of NCI's Comprehensive Working Group on Informed Consent in Cancer Clinical Trials, a group on which Cathy Meade and I served. The templates and recommendations were designed to make consent forms easier-to-read and understand. The materials were focus group tested with physicians, nurses, clinical research associates and patients. Kathy Plomer and Laurie Schneider at the AMC Cancer Research Center in Denver, CO also have developed and tested easy-to-read and understand informed consent forms.
