Friedland, Director of the National Academy on an Aging Society in Washington, DC, at Pfizer's Conference on Health Literacy in 1998. The paper is titled "Understanding Health Literacy: New Estimates of the Costs of Inadequate Health Literacy". In collaboration with the Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc., the Academy also produced a fact sheet summarizing the results of this paper. Gregory O'Neill and other Academy staff are currently updating these cost estimates. An updated version of the paper is expected in Summer 2000.
