Sue,
Since I received this email from you on the listserv this morning, I decided
I had to put in a plug for myself regarding the Summer Institute.

I was recently offered and accepted the Pfizer funded position of Health
Literacy Coordinator for the Greater Columbia Literacy Council here in South
Carolina. By the time I was able to accept the position, the Institue was
full and I was placed on the wait list.

I very much want to utilize these funds from Pfizer in the most effective way
possible and believe that the Institute would help to accelerate my knowledge
and skills in health literacy and give me a step up as I begin my new job
position. I am also happen to be a graduate student in Public Health and
have access to resources in the the school of public health, but no one is
versed in health literacy issues. The experience of the Institue would help
me to be a leader in this arena and be more effective working in this issue.

I'm about to leave town for a week and was wondering if there was any way
possible to be accepted before I leave town so I can make flight and
accomodation arrangements. I really want to try to make a difference in
health literacy here in South Carolina and I'm know that attending the
Institute would have a significant impact on my ability to do so. I promise
I'm not begging, just making a STRONG request!!!

I've copied my supervisor Debbie Yoho on this email to let her know I've
communicated directly with you. Thanks for any consideration you can give.

Rebecca Jacobson
Health Literacy Coordinator
Greater Columbia Literacy Council
