I am an educational consultant working in health care. We are developing written materials to be used by low-literacy para-professional health workers in Ecuador. There is a some pressure to develop these materials in the form of an algorithm. I am concerned regarding the effectiveness of algorithms in written communication with a low-literacy population. Can any of you recommend any research which addresses the use of algorithms with low-literacy populations? I appreciate your input.
