I was sent the following information -- and thought that some
subscribers might be interested in reviewing this project. Actually,
I went to the site and logged in as a reviewer. I only commented on
the Communications competencies as I am not a public health
professional -- I'm a literacy professional.

At any rate, you may find this interesting... If you want to skip the
background and go to the web site, see the last paragraph.

>The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice
>(Council on Linkages) is comprised of leaders from national
>organizations representing the public health practice and academic
>communities. The Council grew out of the Public Health Faculty/Agency
>Forum, which developed recommendations for improving the relevance of
>public health education to the demands of public health in the
>practice sector. The Council's Mission is to improve public health
>practice and education by refining and implementing recommendations
>of the Public
>Health Faculty/Agency Forum, establishing links between academia and the
>agencies of the public health community, and creating a process for
>continuing public health education throughout one's career.
>
>The Council on Linkages is committed to assisting the U.S. Public Health
>Service in efforts to implement components of The Public Health
>Workforce: An Agenda for the 21st Century report pertaining to identifying
>public health competencies that are core for the entire professional public
>health workforce. To this end, the Council has reviewed ten years of work in
>this area as well as gathered input from public health practitioners and
>academicians. The work has synthesized the information into one
>comprehensive list of potential core public health competencies. A
>process of receiving feedback ... has now been implemented. A final
>list is expected to be released in January 2001.
>
>By engaging the users of competencies in their refinement, the Council on
>Linkages hopes to gain the acceptance of and promote the use of a core set of
>public health competencies. Furthermore, this list will ultimately help guide
>curriculum and content development of public health education and training
>programs. Your comments are needed to validate the identified competencies.
>Go to http://www.trainingfinder.org/competencies to comment. If you have any
>questions about the Council on Linkages or the Competencies Project, please
