JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
CONSULTANT TO PRODUCE STUDY CIRCLE GUIDES
WORLD EDUCATION/NCSALL

World Education, a private non-profit organization based in Boston, is
looking for a short-term and part-time consultant to produce a series of
study circle guides for adult basic education practitioners. This work is
part of World Education's partnership with NCSALL (National Center for the
Study of Adult Learning and Literacy), a federally-funded research center
for the field of adult learning and literacy.

Responsibilities

The study circle guides are designed as professional development activities
for teachers, counselors, directors and administrators who work in adult
basic education programs in the U.S. Each guide provides step-by-step
instructions for facilitating a nine-hour, three-part study circle based on
one of NCSALL's research studies. In the study circle, ABE practitioners
will read, discuss and analyze the results from the research study; consider
the applicability of the research findings for their own classrooms and
programs; and develop strategies, techniques and ideas for putting those
findings into practice.

The consultant will be responsible for revising existing draft study circle
guides, incorporating feedback and ideas from the pilot testing of the study
circle. Such revisions includes re-writing existing training steps and
adding new steps as suggested by the pilot. The consultant will be
responsible for layout of the study circles in Word format, complete with
text boxes, table of content, and any other formatting required for the
guide. Final and complete production of the study circle guide, including
editing, is the responsibility of the consultant. Each study circle guide
is approximately 25-50 pages in length. There are four study circle guides
to be completed.

Qualifications

·	Experience in writing training and/or teaching guides in the field of
adult basic education.
·	Excellent skills in producing documents in Word format.
·	Strong writing and proofreading skills.
·	Detail oriented. Excellent follow-through skills.
·	Ability to work without supervision.
·	Ability to meet deadlines.

This is a consultant position, requiring UP TO 160 hours of work over the
next three to four months. Additional training guide work may be available
after that time if consultant produces high-quality work on these study
guides. Pay is $32/hour. No benefits or travel reimbursement are provided.
Consultant may be based anywhere, but must be willing and able to
communicate by phone and e-mail on a timely basis. Applicants will be asked
to submit samples of previous work of similar type.

To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter by December 20, 2000 to
Sam Gordenstein, World Education, 44 Farnsworth Street, Boston, MA
02210-1211. Principals only. No phone calls, faxes, or e-mail, please.

World Education is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
People of color are strongly encouraged to apply.
