Linda and Celine raise a good point about the accuracy and timeliness of
data. Thank you for checking and letting us know. This is a very real
reminder that just because something is published, it is not necessarily
true.

Of note, there is more up-to-date demographic information available about
adult literacy. At a NIFL meeting in December, Ron Pugsley from the US Dept.
of Education showed us a new book, "Benchmarking Adult Literacy In America:
An International Comparative Study."

Unfortunately, there weren't enough copies to go around that day I haven't
yet been successful in getting a copy. Perhaps someone on this List can
share more information about this important resource.
