The standards are appropriate and can serve as a wonderful guide and template for what your pt ed program needs to consider. HOWEVER, when JCAHO only comes to visit every few years, and the focus on meeting the standards is only there in the months before JCAHO visits, staff can become very cynical about 'meeting JCAHO standards'. It could be very effective if hospitals really made the commitment to continuously meet JCAHO standards. I am wondering if this may offer some leverage when opportunities arise to encourage commitment to our cause? Thanks, Debbie Deborah W.
