Pronouncing a national standard gives a good idea backbone. Without
backup plans from medical institutions and schools of medicine and
nursing we cannot get very far. The messengers have to be taught the
message. Knowing JCAHO wants this will not matter greatly until the
date for the survey is set. I do think it will help to use them as a
partner in Literacy.

What do listers think about whether it is reasonable to cite JCAHO standards
as one of many good reasons to promote heath literacy/plain language concepts
and programs? I am wondering if this may offer some leverage when
opportunities arise to encourage commitment to our cause? Thanks, Debbie
