I am trying to think of any article or chapt I hv written that addresses the trauma of low health literacy. I'll mull it over but I cant remember any off the top of my head. Emory wrote an article on Shame and Health literacy : the unspoken connection. Nina Parikh was the first author. It was published in Pt ed and Counseling in 1996. When I give talks I use videos of pts telling stories of their experiences w/ the healthcare system and what its like taking meds when you are not sure of how they need to be taken correctly. Rima Rudd has also recently finished a great a video that addresses this. Some of the clips of my video are seen in the AMA's Health Literacy video which you can order from the AMA[call Dr Joanne Schwartzberg at 312 464 5355]. I think you can order Rima's from her. Why dont you do a study in this important area then we can read and refer to your work- I'm serious.
