Hello, Ms. Lattanzio. My name is Kate Singleton. I am an adult ESL
literacy specialist in Fairfax County, VA. I would be very interested in
reading the materials you wrote about. I will be giving teacher trainings
later this year at the state and hopefully national level on strategies and
materials to use to help the adult immigrant population to be more
self-advocating in the US healthcare system. A large part of this is
helping people to understand more about the concept of preventive care. The
books you describe could be useful, if the language is suited to adults of
limited English proficiency, in drawing people into preventive care topics
and providing them with necessary terminology and concepts. If the books
appear useful, I would be in a position to publicize them to adult ESL
programs and social workers who work in a health education capacity in VA.

Also, I'd be interested in seeing a catalog of your company's publications.

Thank you.

Kate Singleton

Subject: [NIFL-HEALTH:3043] Book awards/endorsements for low literacy books

| I am representing a publisher of two books for the low literacy
population.
| One of the books is about prenatal care, the other about care during the
| first year of life. We would like to submit the books for possible
awards;
| we are also seeking endorsements for the books.
|
| Does anyone know of awards which are given specifically for health
related,
| low literacy materials? Also, does anyone know of anyone who might be
| interested in reading our materials and giving an endorsement of them?
|
| If so, please contact me.
|
| Thank you.
