I'm sure I speak for the entire group in thanking Helen Osborne for her
service as co-moderator. She has been a mentor to me and many others. I
shall not say we will miss her, because of course she will continue to
participate as a list member, but she has earned the chance to put down the
daily challenge of monitoring our discussion group. I especially want to
thank her publicly for taking me under her wing, teaching me so much about
this unique electronic fellowship we all share.

NIFL Health is different from other lists in that it is co-moderated by a
"literacy" person and a "health" person. Helen's credentials as a health
clinician have often given us a perspective from the trenches of the health
community, and we want to maintain that. What do you, as list members,
prefer in the next co-moderator? Someone involved directly in patient care?
Or actively engaged in research? Perhaps someone who works in a university
setting? Someone from public health? Perhaps someone whose perspective is
on prevention rather than care? This is an opportunity to seek out a person
with a fresh perspective. We need your input. Please respond to the whole
list with your ideas--let's get a dialog going.

If there is a list member out there who would like to suggest a particular
person for the job, or who would like to volunteer, or just get further
information about moderating, please let me know privately.

Incidentally, co-moderators do not need any particular technical computer
skills beyond those we all use to participate. Also, I shall of course be
especially available to support and work with the new co-moderator. NIFL is
always there to guide and teach as the need may arise. It is a tremendous
privilege to enjoy NIFL's mentorship.

It has been my pleasure to work with Helen and NIFL since last fall, and I
look forward to joining with a new co-moderator. Here is an opportunity for
someone interested in becoming a player on the national scene. Who will it
be? Debbie
