Health Literacy Month, to be held in October, is campaign to raise awareness about the need for understandable health information. Organizations, large and small, took part in the first-ever Health Literacy Month in 2000. By every account, it was a great success. Health Literacy Month is a grassroots event in which health literacy advocates everywhere raise awareness in their local communities. Many of us worked together to create the Health Literacy Toolbox web site, www.prenataled.com/healthlit/default.asp, as a resource for this event. NIFL-Health is a wonderful forum to brainstorm about Health Literacy Month 2001. I will be a cheerleader and repository of who is doing. Beyond that, Health Literacy Month needs volunteers.
