As part of its health awareness campaign, Oral Health, Cancer Care, and You: Fitting the Pieces Together, NOHIC has developed an information sheet for non-readers and the limited literacy audience. As you are aware, there is a great need for health publications that reach patients with limited literacy skills. The new publication relies on pictographs more than it does words to communicate messages to an audience that has trouble reading above a second grade level. Specifically, NOHIC hopes the document will communicate detailed information about oral health and cancer treatment to an underserved audience. NOHIC is hoping to find professionals who treat cancer patients with severe literacy impairments to field test the design of this new publication.
