Since you asked who's doing what in the area of communicating with older
adults...

I have spoken a number of times on this topic. Matter of fact, at the
upcoming "Health Literacy Symposium" I will be leading a workshop about ways
that health professionals and literacy specialists can work together to
improve understanding with older adults.

I also write about communicating with older adults. There's a chapter on
this topic in my book, "Overcoming Communication Barriers in Patient
Education." It includes facts/figures/frequently asked questions,
communication strategies, a case example, and resources to learn more. I
have also written articles including, " In Other Words.. Mind What You
Say....Speaking With and Listening to Older Adults" in the June 2001 issue
of "On Call" magazine, as well as "In Other Words...Literacy and the Older
Adult" in the October 1999 issue of "On Call." You can access these
resources via my Health Literacy Consulting web site at
www.healthliteracy.com

Glad you asked!
