PLAIN: · promotes the interests of plain language professionals · helps develop standards and practices for the plain language profession · encourages research and development in the field of plain language · provides marketing and networking services for members Conference themes The conference program will be organized around three themes: 1. Putting plain language and its focus on clarity at the centre: PLAIN and its conferences are critically needed to crystallize the meaning of plain language and place its importance at the centre--rather than on the fringes--of communication practices. 2. Clarity across professions and borders: This conference aims to raise PLAIN's profile to a new level, advance public understanding of the issue, and broaden attendance both geographically and by discipline. 3. The benefits of plain language: We want the conference to give a voice to people in business, labour, government and consumer organizations who have experienced and even measured the value of plain language. To expose conference participants to as many fine speakers as possible, the program will offer a rich selection of panels and short workshops. Please submit your proposal by March 1, 2002. To submit a proposal: 1) Read the Background Information and Information for Speakers, available at http://www.plainlanguagenetwork.org/proposals.rtf 2) Fill out the Speaker's Proposal Form 3) Follow the directions for sending your proposal form to the Program Design Team by fax, mail or e-mail.
