Hmmmm, I can share that as a result of the survey of our members' current job
situations (more on that in a minute), 40% of those who responded to the
survey (there were about 70 responses) chose the word "writer/editor" to
describe what they do. But many, most, did not. However, clearly there is a
strong interest in writing.

I was commenting more from the vantage point offered by Dr. Rudd--that not
only on this list, but in general, the health literacy issue (research
especially) has "fixated" (my word) on how to express million dollar
concepts in 10 cents language. She is now observing that lately the
partnership of literacy and health is (and should) "mature" into much more
than plain language applications.

The survey ran on this list in December and January, and was conducted in
response to a desire of subscribers to know something about "who's on the
list". I have finished compiling the results but have not had the time to
compose a report to post--with luck, I'll do that next week.
