Dynishal is referring to the health literacy video entitled In Plain
Language. This video highlights the need for effective communication in
medicine and public health. Adults with low literacy skills sharing
their experiences with the health care system. It also features public
health professionals discussing the impact of low literacy on health,
and health care providers talking about the role of literacy in
interactions with patients. The 15 minute video also suggests
communications strategies. You can preview the video at:
http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/healthliteracy/video.html
You can link to the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and
Literacy's (NCSALL) website from there, to order the video. Thanks.

As far as I can recall, the AMA video features physicians and nurse
practitioners. You might also want to check out a health literacy
video
produced by Dr. Rima Rudd, of the Harvard School of Public Health &
NCSALL.
While it's similar in it's message to the AMA piece, I find the tone to
be
more respectful of adult learners. I believe that it also includes
some
interesting scenarios taking place in pharmacies and related to
navigating
hospital corridors.

Additionally, I work for the Adult Literacy Media Alliance, which will
soon
be creating TV411 health Smarts Kit, which will include a 40 minute
videotape with segments on numerous health literacy topics. For more
info on
this kit, please contact Nancy Rademacher, nrademacher@edc.org.
