Hello all.  My my, the list seems very quiet these days.  I'm checking in with some odds and ends.

1.  I have changed my personal email address to dwyoho@earthlink.net.  You may wish to make a note of it in case you need to communicate with me off-list.  Also, the transition to a new ISP was not at all smooth, plus I have been traveling extensively for the past month, so I have been unavailable if anyone tried to reach me.

2.  One of my trips was to World Education where a group of health literacy supporters met to discuss an Action Plan in the works at World Ed.  I invited the World Ed folks--Sabrina, Elizabeth, chime in here--to post a report of the meeting on the list. Hopefully we'll see that soon.

3.  I've received one off-list inquiry that may be worth posting.  I stress that the inquiry was just that, a question, not a complaint.   No criticism was offered.

"NIFL does have a policy about selling products on the discussion
> groups.  However, it is very difficult to enforce this.  Postings are
> not "pre-approved" by the moderator, and anyone can subscribe to a
> discussion group and then post whatever they want--the technology
> won't stop it.  My role is to bring any violations to the attention of
> anyone who does this, but I can't do that until after the fact.  It is
> also helpful if list members assist in this by raising the issue
> openly on the list whenever you feel someone has stepped over the
> bounds, being carefully not to flame anyone, of course.
>
> However, having said this, there is a very fine line between an
> advertisement and a posting of information for the good of the group.
> Helen Osborne, for example, who has also been a moderator of our list,
> occasionally posts information about distance learning conference
> calls.  These postings are helpful, infrequent,
> are of interest to the group as a whole, and are not posted more than
> once.  Similiarly, from time to time list members will mention a book
> they have written or read. I've never had a complaint about either of these examples.
The litmus test, I think, as to whether or
> not the posting is legitimate is the intent of the writer--are they
> trying to be helpful, or is there an obvious attempt to make money?
>
> I hope this helps.  If indeed, as a list member, you have been
> affronted by someone's posting, please give me the specifics (directly to my email)  so I can
> address it."

4.  I have made an inquiry through Barb van Horn about a possible guest for the list.  However, in view of how quiet the summer seems to be I wonder if a guest should wait until the fall.  Please post your interest in having a guest next month so we can all see the level of interest  I do not want to set up a guest to be greeted with silence.  Respond only if you would like to pick the brains of an expert and will be around in July to do it.

5.  We are still looking for a HEALTH  person to co-moderate the list.  An example of when this would have been helpful is the time when I was gone--someone else could have been available to look after the list.  If you'd like to volunteer--or suggest someone, PLEASE EMAIL ME DIRECTLY OFF-LIST.

Many thanks to all, Debbie
