Full-time position, 40 hours/wk Summary of Position: The Health Literacy Manager reports directly to the Statewide Programs Director and is responsible for the daily operations of the California Health Literacy Initiative, the development of pilot health literacy projects, and external relations regarding health literacy. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of health education and/or adult education work, solid management experience in a nonprofit organization, and the ability to help design a national model for statewide health literacy efforts. Location of Position: Northern California office Responsibilities: 1. Manage Health Literacy Initiative § Work with Statewide Programs Director and Health Literacy staff to implement programmatic objectives § Supervise Health Literacy Initiative staff § Oversee Adult Learner Advisory Council, Professional Working Groups, and consultants 2. Pilot programs § Design and implement pilot programs in the area of health literacy § Support marketing of California Literacy's pilot programs through conference presentations, website communications, drafting of press releases and newsletter articles § Respond to inquiries 3. External Relations § Articulately represent California Literacy and the Initiative in various public forums and encourage broad participation in our work and programs. § Create and maintain partnerships with numerous agencies, organizations, and individuals 4. Publications § Help design and create various publications, including curriculum guides, health literacy fact sheets, and public awareness materials. 5. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: § Bachelor's Degree in relevant field. Preferred: Master's Degree in relevant field. § Minimum of 5 years experience in Public Health and/or Adult Education, § Minimum of 2 years progressively responsible supervisory experience. § Excellent communication and organizational skills. § Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
