Communications Coordinator, California Literacy Job Description Responsible to: Executive Director Immediate Supervisor: Statewide Director of Coalition and Member Development The Communications Coordinator is responsible for communications, media relations, promotions, and event coordination with the goal of increasing literacy awareness and support for adult literacy in California. Broad areas of responsibility include communications related to 1) the Cal Lit Health Literacy Initiative; 2) Cities That Read; 3) Coordination of the annual Cal Lit statewide conference; 4) other duties as directed by the Executive Director and Immediate Supervisors. Job Responsibilities: 1) Design, write, and edit newsletters, brochures, articles, and other promotional literature to expand literacy awareness in California, especially as subject matter relates to Cal Lit focus upon its Health Literacy Initiative, Cities That Read, and the Annual Statewide Conference. Conduct interviews and take photos as needed; 2) Design activities, work plans/goals in designated areas of communication responsibilities (the Health Literacy Initiative, Cities That Read, and the Annual Statewide Adult Literacy Conference). Implement plans as directed; 3) Coordinate special awareness events and promotion of events, specifically the Cal Lit Annual Statewide Conference to enhance conference organization, quality, awareness, and attendance; 4) Maintain contact-active, proactive and reactive--with the media to increase literacy awareness; 5) Evaluate all Cal Lit activities for publicity value.
