Dear NIFL-Health:

I’m new to the list: Jan Gallagher, Director of Communications at the Literacy
Assistance Center of NYC, www.lacnyc.org. Our annual journal, Literacy
Harvest, takes health literacy as the theme for the fall 2004 issue. This is a
call for papers.

Focus/purpose: Literacy Harvest highlights research, trends, and exemplary
practices in adult, family, and youth literacy education. The LAC is home to
NYC’s Health Literacy Resource Center, which fosters partnerships between
health providers and literacy programs to enhance the ability of low-income
New Yorkers to:
·	Understand and use information that can help improve their family’s health
·	Communicate more effectively with their health care providers
·	Access free or low-cost health care
·	Minimize the effect of health issues on employment
·	Access current health information using media and technology

If you are doing work in these areas that would be of interest to our audience
of literacy practioners, researchers, and funders and would be interested in
writing an article, please contact me, jang@lacnyc.org

Length: 2,000 to 4,000 words

Due date: April 15

Thanks,
Jan Gallagher
